Shakery: Watermelon Mojito Poptails

What do you get when you combine a cocktail with a popsicle? A POPTAIL! Of course.

And what’s more patriotic than eating watermelon and drinking booze on the fourth of July? Nothing. Here’s a great want to do both. Bring these to your BBQ and I guarantee you will be the hit of the party.

Watermelon Mojito Poptail:

8 ounces watermelon juice

2 ounces fresh lime juice

1 ounce simple mint syrup

8 ounces light rum

14 ounces club soda

Place 2 1/2 cups of chopped watermelon in blender, process till juiced. Combine watermelon juice {approximately 8 ounces} with 2 ounces free lime juice, 1 ounce of simple mint syrup {see recipe below},  and 8 ounces light rum. Fill molds 3/4 of the way full with mixture. Fill remaining mold with club soda {you will use approximately 14 ounces in total}.

Freeze for two hours {until the mixture starts to solidify enough to hold a stick upright}. Insert popsicle sticks/ or whatever you stick you choose to use and finish freezing up to 5 hours, until solid.

Remove from casing and enjoy!

* Mint syrup: combine 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar in a pot over heat until sugar dissolves, cool, place in 1 cup lightly packed mint leaves and steep for 20 minutes. Strain and discard leaves. OR buy pre-made simple syrup and steep mint leaves in that! *

Happy Fourth of July!!!

xoxo,

Adam

Shakery: Dad’s Margarita Two Ways

We are back with another Shakery. This time in honor of Father’s Day. And who doesn’t like drinking on Father’s Day? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Some dads like their margaritas over ice. Other’s prefer it frozen. Either way we’ve got dad covered for an instand fiesta!

Classic Margarita:

  • Salt, for rimming the glass {optional}
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila {we like Patron, silver label}
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau
Instructions:
  1. If using salt, place in a shallow dish. Moisten the rim of a rocks glass with a dampened paper towel, then dip in salt. {Note, if you don’t like your salt on a margarita we aren’t sure we can be friends with you. It’s obviously the best part}.
  2. Fill the glass with ice; add tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau; and stir a few times until chilled. Serve immediately, garnish with sliced lime. ** If you prefer a sweeter margarita, you can add in 1 ounce of simple syrup **

Strawberry Frozen Margarita:

  • 1 cup ice
  • Salt, for rimming the glass {optional, kind of}
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila {again Patron, Silver Label}
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 3/4 cup frozen strawberries
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/2 ounce Cointreau
Instructions:
  1. Use the same salt technique as above
  2. Combine all of the ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Place in prepared glass, garnish with sliced lime.

Drink up for Dad!

xoxo,

Adam

Shakery: Dark & Stormy

Welcome to our first installment of  the “Shakery” series on our blog. As you know we love paper. And cakes. And food. And design. And of course crafts and DIY’s.
But what you might not know is that we also love ourselves some cocktails. Yes sir. Cheers to that.
And so we bring you Shakery. Why? Well because most delicious alcoholic concoctions are shaken {not stirred}. Oh, and of course because it rhymes with Papery & Cakery. Duh.
To kick off Shakery, we are starting with a classic. The Dark & Stormy. It is Adam’s favorite drink. Ever.  So he’s going to teach you how to make it. That’s right. Adam is blogging for us. Woo woo.
A Dark and Stormy should be made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum {nothing else compares to it}. It’s also important to use ginger beer and not ginger ale. There’s a big difference.
To make a Dark & Stormy:
2 ounces dark rum {preferably Gosling’s Black Seal}
3 ounces ginger beer
1/2 ounce lime juice
freshly grated ginger ~ to taste
lime wedge ~ to garnish
Combine all of the ingredients in a tall glass with ice. Stir to mix. Garnish with lime wedge.
Cheers. L’chaim. Salud.

Ali + Adam
