R + M = 3

IMG-20

Last month, R + M turned a whopping three years old. Ali made the cakes. We ordered an exorbitant amount of pizza. And in the midst of party planning, I tried to keep my jaw off the floor from the utter shock and disbelief that my babies actually turned three. It was tough I tell ya, but I tried to keep it together.

Party planning can become a bit overwhelming {for a Pinterest addicted girl}, so I try to set a few ground rules from the start. 1. Pick and stick to a theme 2. Make the food super simple 3. Limit myself to a few DIY’s. I actually took my own advice this year.

Our theme was Camp Raya and Mason. Since Cole and I love camp {and met at camp many moons ago}, the theme was simple and easy to run with. Speaking of running, that’s mostly what the kids did. Our fabulous PE coach set up a litany of activities to exhaust the younger crowd.

Thanks to our friends at The Land of Nod, we had the coolest camp teepee {ever}. They also sent some pretty fun giant wood stringing beads to make campy necklaces and friendship bracelets with.

I printed a few postcards and stocked up on EZ paint so the kids could write mock letters to mom and dad from the party.

I really stuck to my guns and held myself to one meager DIY project. These marshmallow “camp fires” are really just brown pieces of floral foam

that I painted faux bois style with black acrylic paint. Then I tore up scraps of red, orange and yellow tissue paper and used school glue to attach them for the fiery look. No, those s’more pops are not really on fire {but they were mighty tasty}. A few campy lanterns and a gingham table roll really set the tone. {Conspicuously missing? My crazy creek chair circa 1995. If you went to camp you know what I am talking about}.IMG-2

The favors were kid-sized baseball tees using R + M’s logo and a giant #3 on the back. A mini flashlight rounded out the gable box, which I tied with red bakers twine.

Staples offers giant logo banners for $12. Yes, you heard me right. This one was very weather durable and adorned the DJ tent.

Cakes

Oh, and the Cakery cakes were obviously the piece de resistance especially considering my fabulous sister made them while simultaneously caring for a one month old baby. Talk about made with love? Chocolate buttercream, chocolate “rocks”, and a graham cracker tent really made everyone smile. Especially R + M. On to the next one…
