Party Animal Hats

I loved sharing all of the details from R + M’s 2nd birthday with you a few weeks ago. I used to put a lot of pressure on myself to have the “best” party “ever.” But now, I stick to a few key rules, which have really helped me mellow out and plan really fun events.

First: have great food. {Usually that means I am not the one cooking it}. I think the key to a fun party is to have delicious things to eat. It is always the part that sticks in my memory. Two: have just a few choices of fun things to do. For this party, we had a music teacher and a few craft projects {placemats with buckets of crayons} at the kids table during the meal. Three {and this is the most important}: do not get wrapped up in every detail. I like to pick a few key details to “obsess” over and keep everything else simple. For this event, we created mini party hats for animals to wear as centerpieces. It was my main DIY and themed out the day.

I saw these animals a few months back and was completely smitten. Here’s a simple tutorial how to copy them for yourself.

Supplies

Construction Paper in a variety of colors

Double Sided Tape

Zots glue dots and/or Craft glue

Colored feathers and/or tissue paper

Animals {I like Schleich which I purchased at Michaels and Toys R Us}

1. Use the corners of the construction paper and cut a traingle with a rounded edges.

2. Use the edge of a pencil to wrap the hat into a cone shape. Secure with double stick tape.

3. Trim the bottom of the hat to size. Trim the tip of the hat.

4. Trim the end of a feather and stick in the top of the hat. Or use tissue to fill the top. {I preferred the feathers}.

Secure onto the animals with a drop of craft glue {which will make the hats easily removable} or a glue dot.
