Purple Smoky Eyes

Hi! Leah from Live Love Lipstick here with you today ready to share a tutorial on smoky eyes.

As much as I adore a good smoky eye, I prefer to switch it up from the typical grey/black color scheme.  I fell head over heels in love when I saw the new Urban Decay Smoked Eye Palette. This palette includes ten colors to help you achieve different types of smoked, seductress eyes.  This week, I tried out the trendy “Purple Smoky Eye” on Niki.

To achieve the look:

1. Prime your lids with Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion {it’s included in palette} to help set the shadow and to keep it from creasing. See my post on primer here at Prime Time.

2. Spread the Mushroom shadow across the entire lid, really working it into the crease.  {This color is so awesome that I almost wanted to stop right then and there}.

3. Apply the Rockstar shadow from the outer corner, blending in, giving it a true smoke effect.

4. Line the top and bottom lids with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion {also included in the palette}.  This pencil is so smooth, it really does glide right on!  Don’t worry about being perfect with your line, as you’ll smudge it shortly after.

5. Apply Rockstar shadow over the liner, smudging it in to avoid harsh lines.  I especially love how this looked in the bottom and top corners. Truly a Rockstar!

6. Use a little of the Freestyle shadow below the brow bone. This will make the smultry colors pop.

7. Use two coats of mascara {after your primer of course}.  We tried the new Givenchy Noir Mascara. It really adds to the drama. I also used MAC’s Extended Play Lash Mascara for as the second coat. The wand is thin, and the mascara itself is very lightweight to avoid clumping.

8. Clean up any necessary liner, mascara, and shadow with Makeup Remover Swabs.  These are literally a snap  {yup, you snap them and remove any stray makeup}.

9. I like to pair a smoky eye with bronzer, a light pink blush and a nude lip. This draws all of the attention to the eyes. I’m really loving MAC Peach Blossom and L’Oreal Paris Lipcolour in Fairest Nude for lipstick. We glossed Niki’s lips with MAC’s Paper Lantern Cremesheen Glass.

The result: killer purple smoky eyes making Niki quite the hot momma!!

xoxo,

Leah

By letting the eyeshadow extend out past that imaginary line that goes from the corner of the eye up to the end of the brow, you’re making the eye look droopy. If you take a Q-tip and diagonally drag it along that line to clean up any unwanted shadow, you’d be amazed at how lifted the eye suddenly looks.
