A few weeks ago I picked up a few inexpensive trays at target {white and silver} and decided they needed some spice. Obviously glitter was the perfect solution. I used two different techniques and love both of the outcomes.
First I taped off the pattern I wanted to glitter using painter’s tape. I used a chevron on the white tray and two different sized stripes on the silver tray. Make sure to press the tape down all the way so no glitter can sneak underneath. Tape off the sides if you don’t want to glitter them.
For the chevron white tray:
Mix 1 part glitter to 2 parts Mod Podge
{matte or shiny depending on the look you want to achieve}. The mixture will look predominately white. Using a foam brush
, “paint” the glitter onto the white spaces in thin coats. Wait 5 minutes between coats. This tray took about 15 coats to achieve the opaque glitter look. Let dry completely for at least an hour to overnight before removing the tape.
For the striped silver tray:
Spread a thin layer of Mod Podge on the tray. Shake glitter
on top, completely coating the adhesive. Let dry for at least 10 minutes before shaking all excess glitter off. Then let dry completely for at least an hour to overnight. Paint another thin layer of mod podge on top. Let that dry completely before removing the tape.
I love using these trays to display books, photos and my favorite knick knacks on my coffee table. Of course, they’re fabulous for serving and entertaining.
xoxo,
Niki
