I adore certain smells. Lemon and citrus are my absolute favorites. Lavender is the runner up.
Lately, I’ve been on a quest to purify my home by switching to products made with less chemicals. I made my own laundry detergent {a project that went surprisingly well that I promise to share soon}. I made a DIY anti-bacterial spritz to clean up some of R+ M’s toys. I now clean our floors with white vinegar, instead of chemical solutions. It gives me peace of mind.
This week, I made homemade oil diffusers which have me completely smitten. These would make a fabulous gift and are genuinely easy to make. I swear.
First gather your “ingredients”
- Mineral Oil
- Essential Oils {I used lemon
& grapefruit
for one, lavender
for another}
- Vodka {anything that has vodka in it has to be awesome right?}
- A small bottle. Ideally something with a narrow mouth and wider bottom. I bought this
and this.
. Vanilla extract comes in something similar.
- Reed Diffuser
/kebab skewers
Using a funnel, pour in mineral oil so it fills up 3/4 of your bottle. Next add 1 tbs vodka {this helps the oil travel up the reeds}.
Place approximately 12 drops of your favorite essential oil{s} for every 1/4 cup of mineral oil. In my larger container I used about 1/2 cup of mineral oil so I used 12 drops of lemon and 12 drops of grapefruit. In my smaller vessel, I used 1/4 cup of mineral oil so I used 12 drops of lavender.
Adjust as you see necessary.
Insert the reeds into the bottle and cut as necessary. They should be approximately double the size of the bottle itself.
Enjoy the delicious smells {and knowing exactly what your product is made of!}.
xoxo,
Niki

[...] oil. You can adjust this recipe depending on the size of your bottle or desired fragrance tastes. Here is the full tutorial from papery & [...]
Mineral Oil is a petroleum by-product, so it’s not something necessarily safe for household use. :\ Jojoba, or Almond oils both work well, and are non-toxic.
Hope this helps!
Have just bought all goods and made them will let you know how hey go….Thanks xx
