Week 3 of gingerbread house decorating. This week I put the finishing touches on my house and it looks adorable! (If you missed Part 1 or Part 2 just click the links)
To begin, I made a batch of royal icing.
Place 2 egg whites in electric mixing bowl fitted with the whisk attachment and whip until foamy.

Add 3-4 cups of confectioners’ sugar and whip until smooth and shiny. Make sure to keep a damp towel over the icing when you are not working with it, as it will dry out very quickly.

Place royal icing in a piping bag with an Ateco tip 800. I piped a door and window on the front of the house. You can also use the royal icing to adhere any decorations, such as a door handle.
I took store bought vanilla wafers and used the royal icing to adhere the wafers, which looked like roof tiles. Royal icing dries very hard and strong so it’s perfect for attaching candy and cookies to the house.
I piped the royal icing around the wafers to look like snow on the roof of the house.
I also used red and white jelly beans along with candy canes as accents on the house.
My house is just a basic template, but the sky is really the limit on your gingerbread house. I recommend collecting unique candies in different shapes and colors, along with cookies and other holiday decor to embellish your house!
Happy Holidays!
xoxo,
Ali
