As I’ve mentioned many times before, I live with a football fanatic. So yesterday, while Cole watched the Ravens play in New England, I found myself in front of the television watching the game. And honestly, I was impressed, because I saw a lot of real men wearing…. PINK! Oh yes! Yesterday the NFL honored Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout October, NFL games will feature players, coaches and referees wearing pink game apparel to raise awareness, as well as on-field pink ribbon stencils and special K-balls and pink coins.

I just love this idea. Many of the players had on just a touch of pink, be it a pink pair of shoes, gloves, wristbands, or eve a hot pink towel. The goal posts shimmered in fuchsia and featured large breast cancer pink ribbons. Even the refs and coaches got in on the pink action, donning pink ribbons on their jerseys and shirts. Finally, the NFL is willing to integrate fashion. Now this was a game I wanted to watch!

All of this thinking pink had me thinking… if you can bring a touch of pink into a football game, why not bring it into your next event. Maybe you’ve been touched by breast cancer, like so many others. If you have, consider honoring and recognizing it by integrating just a smidgeon of pink into your event. Maybe you’ll saunter down the aisle in pink stilettos, carry a pink handbag, pink pashmina, or wear a hot pink garter. Maybe you’ll send an invitation with a touch of pink. Maybe your bridesmaids will suit up in pink dresses, or wear pink earrings. Maybe you’ll even carry a pink bouquet. You don’t have to go over the top, just a touch of pink will do. Let your guests know why you’ve incorporated it by mentioning it in the programs. Hopefully you’ll inspire people to go pink in the future, just like the NFL.

Keep in mind, all apparel worn at games by players and coaches and special K-balls and pink coins will auctioned off at NFL Auction, with proceeds benefitting the American Cancer Society and team charities.

Real men definitely wear pink on the field.
